Julia Scott

With over 20 years of studio and independent film experience, Julia has a combination of business, creative and legal experience that gives her a unique and in-depth understanding of the film industry. Before attending law school in 2002, Julia worked for 12 years as an award-winning Documentary Filmmaker and Production Executive, Director’s Associate, Production Coordinator, and Assistant to Director. After graduating from law school in 2004, Julia worked at Business Affairs, Inc., a boutique entertainment law firm where she represented producers, financiers and distributors, and in 2007, she joined The Walt Disney Company, where she worked exclusively on Marvel and DreamWorks matters for Walt Disney Studios Distribution and as Counsel to The Baby Einstein Company. While there, Julia handled a variety of matters that included extensive experience in development, production, distribution, marketing and advertising, consumer relations, business development, intellectual property, privacy and antitrust. Since 2011, Julia has been working with LexisNexis® as an Author for Lexis® Practice Advisor.

Practice Areas:

Entertainment Transactions Julia represents clients in a broad range of acquisition, development, production, and distribution transactions for low to high-budget feature films, short films, and documentaries, which includes but is not limited to, negotiating and drafting all forms of acquisition, development, production and distribution agreements, analysis of chain-of-title and copyright issues, and production counsel services.

Marketing and Advertising Julia represents clients in connection with the marketing and advertising of consumer products, feature films, short films, and documentaries, which includes but is not limited to, negotiating and drafting draft new media, online and traditional marketing agreements (including website, hosting and other online services agreements, sweepstakes, contest, promotion, production, special events, publicity, marketing, and advertising services, and content license agreements), and advising clients on social media campaigns, website builds and Federal Trade Commission issues.

Corporate Counsel Julia works with clients who have new or existing entertainment, media and consumer product companies that may not have in-house counsel, and in consultation with other attorneys if required, represents them in various aspects of their business, which includes but is not limited to, negotiating and drafting employment, settlement, and confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements, and working one-on-one with clients to establish legal policies, procedures and best practices for the operation of their businesses.
